I attended my first AIPAD Photography Show in New York City this past weekend. I drove down from New Hampshire with my daughter the night before, and we met up with my mentor, Amy Giese, and four others from the Photo MFA program. Some folks live too far away to attend. I wasn’t 100% sure what to expect, but I had a great time, learned a lot, and gathered incredible inspiration!
AIPAD is the Association of International Photographic Art Dealers. It’s an art fair specifically for photography. Here galleries and dealers pay exorbitant fees for a space where they exhibit work by artists they represent, work they believe will actually sell. Most of the works are several thousand dollar or tens of thousands of dollars. It is therefore a window into the photographic arts marketplace, and the diversity of styles was broad. I was pleased to have the opportunity to connect with a few galleries and some of the artists milling about.
